Plenty of vintage Lady-Datejusts come through the door. Almost none of them come through like this. The reference 6917 is the classic ladies President from the 1970s — solid 18k yellow gold case, fluted gold bezel, and the fully gold President bracelet — and this 1978 example has done something most watches its age never manage: stayed with one owner, stayed unpolished, and kept every piece of its original set.
The champagne dial with applied gold baton markers is the quiet, correct spec for the reference. Under the domed acrylic crystal it has that warm glow that sapphire-era watches simply don’t have — the 6917 was the last of the four-digit Lady-Datejusts before Rolex moved to sapphire and a quickset date with the 69178. Never polished means the case still carries its original lines and sharp edges exactly as they left Geneva, which is the single biggest thing collectors look for in vintage gold.
Then there’s the set. The red Rolex presentation box with the embroidered tapestry lid, the original chronometer papers, the hang tags, the booklets and the wallet — all still together after nearly fifty years. On a 1970s Lady-Datejust that’s genuinely rare. Most surface as watch only, the paperwork long gone. It was also serviced by Rolex in December 2007.
